Digital Marketing Lead

The Traffic Acquisition team at Perk Canada is a performance and results oriented team. Our Digital Marketing Specialists spend their days managing their own portfolios of pay-per-click advertising campaigns to drive traffic to our websites. As the Lead of this team, you will be the first point of contact for your Digital Marketing Specialist reports. You will act as a sounding board, advocate, celebrator, and coach to your team members. The role is as much about being a good motivator as it is about results. This is without a doubt a people focused role.

You will report to the Director of Traffic Acquisition, collaborating on the tactical and strategic objectives, which you will be expected to execute through your team members. You will be empowered to drive decisions and provide suggestions that directly impact the performance of your team members and the business as a whole. The Lead role is demanding and challenging but equally rewarding. The team itself is a mixture of competitive and collaborative and shines with a mix of awesome personalities. Each media buyer on the team is responsible for managing their own advertising portfolio. Your role will be to support and assist your direct reports in order to optimize performance, process, and overall team morale. You’ll also be involved in the hiring and onboarding process for new team members.

Your Role

We’re looking for a Experienced Communicator and Leader. While most team member’s roles can be done independently and requiring limited collaboration, the Lead role requires an extreme level of communication. You will be required to communicate constructively and effectively with several different personality types. You must be the balance when there is disorder and the calm when there is chaos. The ability to remain levelheaded and calm under pressure is a must. You will build strong relationships with all team members, as well as with other cross-functional roles within the company. In order to succeed in this role, you’ll also need to be:

  • Creative

    You’ll need to be creative, intuitive, and empathetic in this role to succeed. You will provide outside the box thinking, new ideas, and portfolio reviews to team members on a regular basis to ensure best practices and performance goals are being met.

  • Analytic

    You’re going to have to love digging through very granular data and be comfortable working with tables of data. You’ll use our reporting tools to drill up and down to different granularities to “create a picture” of how campaigns, portfolios, and projects are performing. You’ll use this information to report back to upper management and to provide direction to your team members.

  • Organized and Methodical

    At any given time, you will be tasked with managing tactical, strategic, and project specific objectives all in a fast paced and ever-changing environment. You will need a strong organizational background and the ability to build your own processes, to create order in a setting where you’ll be expected to juggle many conflicting tasks. You will also need to be the type of person who is okay with changing priorities and tactics throughout the year. We don’t live in a static environment, and we LOVE it.

Must Haves

Tools + Hard Skills You’d Use Daily

  • Excel pivot tables connected to various data sources host all of our pertinent data. What tools do you use to data dive? How do you usually break down data?
  • Social / PPC advertising platforms (e.g Facebook, Google, Native, etc.)
  • Keyword research tools (Google Keyword Planner, Bing Keyword Planner, SEM Rush, etc.). Do you have a favourite? Tell us about it.
  • Custom internal tools. Yes, we have an awesome dev team that builds us cool things!
  • Design tools for image/creative customization. What would be your tool of choice?
  • Anything you can use to research new opportunities. This can be something as simple as searching Google all the way to using the research tools we have available to us. How do you usually keep up with the latest trends?
  • You have a fairly strong math/analytical background. No, you don’t need to know the formula for quadratic equations, but the ability to read and understand numbers at a basic mathematical level is necessary.

  • You are a people person and a team builder. You tend to get along well, even with those who challenge your ideas. You should be someone who is able to get buy-in from a group of people. Your ideas become their ideas and their success becomes your success.
  • You are comfortable being uncomfortable with your decisions. This really speaks to your risk tolerance. Sometimes data can only tell us so much and then it’s up to you to make the best decisions you can while trying to maximize profits. “Smart risks” are a key part of this role.
  • You’re comfortable living in a certain amount of chaos. We live in a constantly changing environment but that’s what makes it challenging and rewarding. You should be comfortable with changing objectives and priorities, while still focused on some core overarching strategies.
  • Every “failure” is really a step towards success and that failure is exciting! You will need to be the type of person who is able to rally motivation even when everyone around you has lost enthusiasm. We test things every single day, many of which fail. We believe that every failure is an opportunity to learn and brings us closer to success!
  • You listen attentively, learn quickly, and then add your own spin on lessons learned. There’s a million ways to approach the problems we face. The Lead role will be tasked with finding and driving different approaches to find success.

If You Match Any of These, You’re Ahead of the Game

  • You have experience leading a performance/results-oriented team (Sales, Marketing, etc.)
  • You have seen failure and persevered through it
  • You are comfortable working with pivot tables and data in Excel
  • You know all about personality types. What type are you?
  • You have experience in a performance-based marketing role managing your own campaigns
  • You have existing skills and experience in using Facebook Ads, Google Ads, or an equivalent platform, with a focus on conversion for profit. If so, tell us about it!
  • You have experience in landing page optimization
